The number of passenger and light commercial vehicle thefts dropped 7% to 45,764 last financial year, according to revised data.

The figure includes 34,803 short-term thefts and 10,961 vehicles taken for profit, the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council says.

Total incidents fell 5% to 57,072, despite motorcycle thefts rising 7% to 8623.

The council has updated figures released last month to reflect revised data from the ACT.
