Car theft falls 7%

Car theft continues to decline across the country, with a 7% fall in thefts in the 12 months to March this year.

Latest figures from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council reveal Tasmania enjoyed the greatest improvement, with a 23% decrease.

Three-quarters of stolen cars were recovered.

In the March quarter, the number of thefts declined 5%, compared with the previous corresponding period.
