Car theft council up for review
The National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council must present an independent evaluation of its operations to state crime prevention ministers and the Insurance Council by the end of the year. The evaluation was outlined in the terms of the intergovernmental/insurance industry agreement that set up the unique crime-busting agency.
Under the current agreement, the NMVTRC’s joint industry/government mandate must be decided by the end of next year. The review will begin in May and focus on the processes used to achieve reform, the progress of reform and the impacts of those reforms.
The council is obviously confident it has a future. Since its formation three years ago it has spearheaded the formation of a national vehicle exchange databank, and improved identification systems and compliance labels for vehicles.
