Bushfire claims continue to mount

Insurers have processed more than 6750 claims worth $810 million following the Victorian bushfire disaster.

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) says insurers have completed assessments for about 60% of the domestic and commercial claims received.

“As access improves assessors are able to move into more of the affected areas, allowing the general insurance industry to assess the damage to insured properties,” the council said in a statement.

On Friday a CGU spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au the insurer has received more than 1100 bushfire claims.

AAMI says it settled 92% of related motor vehicle claims within a week of the tragedy, with staff “working around the clock”.

Executive GM Anthony Durakovic says the bushfire response is “one of the biggest operations in our history”.

Meanwhile, the devastating North Queensland floods have resulted in 800 claims with insured losses of $12 million.
