BOM downgrades La Nina risk
The prospects of La Nina materialising are increasingly remote, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
“Although some very weak La Nina-like patterns continue, La Nina thresholds have not been met,” the bureau says.
“Climate models and current observations suggest these patterns will not persist.”
The bureau has changed its El Nino-Southern Oscillation outlook from “La Nina watch” to “inactive”.
La Nina is characterised by above-average rainfall, and usually occurs after an El Nino episode.
