Blue Mountains class action nears settlement

An “in principle” settlement has been reached between Endeavour Energy and plaintiffs who filed a Blue Mountains bushfire class action.

The matter is now before the Supreme Court of NSW, where approval is required for the settlement to proceed.

“Endeavour Energy and Sean Johnston – a representative party in class action proceedings for the 2013 Springwood-Winmalee bushfire – have agreed an in principle settlement, which is subject to court approval,” Endeavour’s Corporate Affairs Manager Kate McCue told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

The court hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 6. The plaintiffs are represented by litigation specialists Maddens Lawyers.

Last month Endeavour Energy settled a separate Blue Mountains bushfire class action led by IAG for $4 million.

The Springwood-Winmalee fire in October 2013 destroyed 200 homes and damaged 200 more.
