Best and brightest recognised

Across an industry seeking an injection of youthful exuberance, the young guns of insurance are being given their dues.

Over the past few weeks four of the state finalists for the National Insurance Brokers Association's (NIBA) Warren Tickle Memorial Award for young professional brokers have been announced, with Victoria’s to be named at the NIBA Victoria Ball on Saturday night.

Dean Brumby from Austcover in Queensland, Angela San Diego from Marsh in NSW, EBM Insurance Brokers’ Ward Dedman from WA, and Aon’s Ian Furby from SA will contest the national award at the NIBA Convention in October.

Meanwhile, Craig Olsen, head of workers’ compensation at IAG in Victoria, has been named as one of Boss magazine’s “Young Executive of the Year” winners, an annual recognition of the business world’s best and brightest under 35 years of age.

He was one of six young professionals to receive an award and the only one from the insurance industry.

And in another strong result for the insurance industry, Mandy Turner from Graham Herring Insurance Brokers in Newcastle won the Hunter Region Trainee of the Year in Financial Services Certificate III this week.

Ms Turner also won the Hunter Region Overall Trainee of the Year selected from 15 traineeship industries.

She will now represent the Hunter region at the NSW Traineeship Awards in Sydney in September.
