Australian storm claims hit $2 billion

Insured losses from the March storms in Melbourne and Perth have reached the $2 billion mark.

Latest Insurance Council of Australia figures reveal WA insurers have received 161,793 claims worth a total of $1.053 billion, while the Melbourne storm has resulted in 131,447 claims valued at $1.044 billion.

Claims from the Perth event have risen 18,342 since May, with insured losses rising by $120.6 million.

In the same period an additional 6269 claims for Melbourne were lodged, with insured losses increasing by $129 million.
