Aussie adjusters will lend a hand in shaky isles
About 45 Australian loss adjusters will be trained to handle claims for what has been dubbed an “inevitable” earthquake in NZ. They will team up with NZ’s Earthquake Commission (EQC) to devise procedures for the day a big quake strikes.
Wyatt Gallagher Bassett has a contract with the EQC to provide claims management services. Last year 33 adjusters completed the day-long training course. It’s estimated that Australian adjusters may have to be based in NZ for up to six months after a big natural disaster.
Why not use local loss adjusters? The EQC says the country doesn’t have enough, and they will be preoccupied with commercial and motor vehicle claims. The EQC only insures domestic risks.
