Aon rejoins IBANZ after three-year absence

The only major broker to sit the outside Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand (IBANZ), Aon NZ, has decided to rejoin the organisation.

The company parted ways with the association three years ago over a feud with former Aon executive and IBANZ President Richard Russell, who stepped aside in September after a three-year term.

Aon says “recent changes to the leadership structure” within the IBANZ Board have encouraged it to rejoin. It also cited the formation of IBANZ College as a positive initiative.

“We consider that going forward, IBANZ is well positioned to promote the interests of the industry,” the broker said in a statement.

IBANZ CEO Gary Young told insuranceNEWS.com.au that from the association’s point of view it’s a good move because “it strengthens the one voice for the industry” when dealing with decision-makers.

“Aon is a significant player in our marketplace and it’s important that we have them on board,” he said.
