Another last-gasp rescue in Victoria

The Victorian Government has offered a temporary solution for the state’s adventure tourism operators, stepping in with another short-term insurance rescue package. The Government and the Victorian Tourism Operators Association have reached an agreement with Zuellig Insurance Brokers to ensure all operators can get public liability insurance cover.

Several adventure tourism businesses across the state were in threat of closure if the package had not come through.

Finance Minister John Lenders said the scheme is a “temporary, cost-neutral” measure. The Government will become a reinsurer providing short-term cover for adventure tourism operators who are struggling to get cover or meet the massive increases in premiums. The scheme will run for 12 months until the market adjusts and new providers hopefully enter the market.

Zuellig already acts as VTOA’s program manager and provides insurance with premiums based on market rates.
