And the most stolen car is…

AAMI’s claim data shows that the 1986 Holden Calais is the car most likely to be stolen in Australia. Other frequently stolen cars stolen in 2001 were the 1984 and 1985 Holden Calais, the 1979 Mazda 626 and the 1985 Holden Commodore. 

And the ones that are most likely to still be there when you get back – ranked from 1 to 5 – include the 1999 and 2001 Holden Astra, the 1997 Ford Laser, 1997 Toyota Camry and the 1999 Ford Laser. The survey also showed that car thefts are highest across Australia in July, with 9.2% of all claims in 2001 lodged in that month.
