Premier Steve Bracks has announced Victoria will conduct an inquiry into this year’s bushfires, which were the worst since Ash Wednesday in 1983. The appointment of Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin to head up the inquiry has raised some eyebrows. After all, he will be expected to review the performance of all State Government departments and emergency services agencies during the bushfire emergency.
