German insurer Allianz has been named General Insurer of the Year at the annual Australian Banking & Finance Awards in Sydney.

The insurer was also involved in the Best General Insurance Product category, won by NAB National Home Insurance but underwritten by Allianz.

Allianz has taken home the award for best general insurer for the past two years.

Broker of the Year was Aon, while Swiss Re won Best Reinsurance Company.

QBE CEO Frank O'Halloran added to his company's trophy case by receiving the award for Best Insurance Executive. QBE won its sixth straight insurer of the year award at the NIBA Convention on the Gold Coast last month.
