AICLA tackles training void
Claims professionals met in Sydney last Thursday for the launch of the new training body for people working in the claims sector. Established by the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA), the Institute of Claims Technicians (ICT) has been established to ensure claims staff get proper training.
AICLA President Mark Godfrey told the launch that ICT was established after an AICLA survey of claims technicians highlighted a need for a professional training body. “They felt that qualified loss adjusters were trained adequately through the Diploma of Financial Services (Loss Adjusting), but for professionals looking after high-volume areas, there needed to be a tailored training body,” he said.
The ICT was also launched to increase recognition of the unique role played by claims professionals throughout the industry. ICT secretary Tony Libke says the launch was a huge success and the next step is to involve more claims technicians in the education process. Training is being managed by the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA), and the course material is available on the NIBA website.
