ACT releases flood data

The ACT Government has published long-awaited flood data showing one-in-100-year flood risks for the Molonglo River.

As a relatively modern city Canberra has a limited flood risk, although the Molonglo, which flows into Lake Burley Griffin, does cause problems in the adjoining NSW city of Queanbeyan.

ACT Emergency Services Minister Simon Corbell says most homes are built above the flood level, but the data on the Government’s website will still help insurance buyers.

The Government is updating mapping of other creeks and will add this information to the database towards the end of the year.
