ACIL urges industry to back Queensland stamp duty campaign
The Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby (ACIL) has called on the industry to support its Queensland pre-election campaign pressing for stamp duty reforms.
It has formally requested financial assistance from three insurance industry associations for a targeted media campaign, which could encompass radio, newspapers and television.
“This is an opportunity for consumers and industry to unite our efforts on this important issue,” ACIL Chairman Tyrone Shandiman said. “Collaboration on this campaign is not just an investment in the future of Queensland’s insurance landscape, but also a significant gesture of the industry’s dedication to enhancing the wellbeing of consumers and voters alike.”
The group is focusing on marginal electorates in north Queensland, which could be critical to the October state election result. ACIL says consumers face exorbitant insurance costs that are exacerbated by the 9% duty on policies including car, home, contents and business cover.
Labor has held power in Queensland since 2015.
