AAMI still working on Christmas bushfire claims
AAMI is still finalising claims settlements from the Christmas Day bushfire along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.
A spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au AAMI “understands the frustration of residents waiting for insurance claims to be finalised, but safe clean-up, assessment of rebuild costs and recovery after a disaster such as the Great Ocean Road fires can take time”.
The insurer is “focused on working with government and local council to ensure we have all the necessary rebuild information that can affect rebuild costs or settlements for our customers”.
“It’s vital that this information is correct for customers with AAMI complete replacement cover, to ensure settlement or rebuild includes customers’ full entitlements, but it is also important information for customers with sum-insured policies.”
AAMI did not directly address insuranceNEWS.com.au’s query about the number of claims settled.
It says it is “rebuilding homes and replacing possessions for more than 60 of our customers… the vast majority of these are for total loss home claims. AAMI has offered emergency funds and accommodation where applicable, and we are committed to finalising all claims as soon as we can.”
Allianz says it has paid more than $8.6 million to settle 26 out of 34 home building and contents claims received as of last Thursday.
IAG told insuranceNEWS.com.au it has assessed 42 properties as total losses and settled 27 claims, and is working with the remaining customers on taking their claims forward.
