AAMI customers safe from hackers
Hackers who took over AAMI's website on Friday didn't access sensitive customer records or account details, the insurer said yesterday.
A group known as the Ay Yildiz Team illegally accessed the AAMI website and redirected traffic to another site filled with anti-Semitic rhetoric.
The site, allegedly hacked by Ay Yildiz Team member karam125, contained messages telling Israel "don't kill children".
AAMI said the site was taken over at about 9.30am on Friday when the hackers found a backdoor through the company's "media announcements" page. AAMI shut its website down as a safety precaution, later re-opening it at about 2.45pm.
An internet search of Ay Yildiz reveals the group has been responsible for hacking an array of international sites, including those in Argentina, the US, UK and Germany.
AAMI spokesman Geoff Hughes told Sunrise Exchange News the company had increased web security in the wake of the attack.
"The customer records and credit card details - all that sort of stuff - is several firewalls away," he said. "We aren't alone in defending these attacks, but it sharpens your focus when it happens."
