2500 claims lodged after Victoria storms
About 2500 claims have been lodged following thunderstorms and heavy rain across parts of Victoria at the end of last week.
Flash flooding was reported in several Melbourne suburbs and Geelong, with thousands losing power.
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) says downpours caused damage in some localised areas but the level of claims is not unusual for summer storms and the industry is well able to cope.
ICA has not declared any insurance catastrophes so far this summer, despite La Nina conditions, which bring added flood risk to parts of Australia, prevailing.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the current La Nina is likely approaching its peak and should break in early autumn.
