Sydney makes top 10
Sydney has come in 10th in the latest Global Financial Centres Index by the Z/Yen Group.
The city scored 660 points out of a total of 840 points – a score that has been consistent through the past few surveys.
The top city was London with a score of 772 points, with New York in second place (770 points) and Hong Kong third (760 points).
Melbourne came in 23rd with 622 points while Wellington was placed 38th with 585 points.
The index is based on 33,023 financial centre assessments submitted by 1876 financial services professionals.
Z/Yen Group Chairman Michael Mainelli says while London and New York have remained the top two centres, Asia is catching up fast.
“Financial services professionals around the globe have been consistent in saying that Hong Kong now joins the top two,” he said.
Asian financial centres filled four of the top 10 positions, with Singapore placed fourth (728 points), Tokyo fifth (697) and Shanghai sixth (693).
