Premiums still rising in latest group life figures

Group life net premiums were up $675 million in the 12 months ending March 31, according to the latest data from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

In the year to March, group life premiums were $8.2 billion, compared to $7.5 billion in the corresponding 2015 period.

Net claim benefits paid were up slightly to $3.6 billion, compared to $3.3 billion in the previous corresponding reporting period.

Group life premiums in industry super funds rose moderately to $3.4 billion. This compared to $3.2 billion in the previous corresponding period.

Claim benefits rose slightly to $1.7 billion, compared to $1.6 billion.

Retail super fund premiums were $3.8 billion, which was slightly up on the $3.4 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Claim benefits at March 31 were flat at $1.3 billion.

Corporate super fund premiums were up from $119 million in the 12 months ending March 31 last year to $134 million in the corresponding reporting period for this year.

Claim benefits also rose up from $62 million in 2015 to $74 million in the 12 months ending March 31 this year.
