Planners push for recognition

The media coverage of challenges faced by the financial planning industry is disproportionate to the extent of the profession, according to the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

In the latest issue of the association’s magazine, CEO Jo-Anne Bloch says in the short time she has been with the FPA she has had much advice on the challenges facing the industry – specifically the association and its members.

“Many of the challenges are quite public and have been openly discussed in the media,” she said. “I question if this coverage is well out of proportion for the size of the profession in Australia.”

Ms Bloch says there has been too much focus on the problems and little recognition of the work planners do. “There is a need to improve perceptions of the profession. The FPA has and will continue to do so through the ‘Value of Advice’ campaign and ongoing media involvement on consumer issues.”
