New FOS board to meet this week
The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has named its new board, which will officially meet for the first time tomorrow.
Former Hawke Government minister Michael Lavarch replaces Peter Daly – whose involvement in the development of the insurance industry’s disputes resolution service and then the merger of the three major financial services bodies spans more than 20 years.
The new board includes some members from the previous board – Insurance Council of Australia CEO Kerrie Kelly, and former Financial Industry Complaints Service directors Russell McKimm, Jenni Mack and David Squire.
Joining the board are David Coorey, Brendan French, Catriona Lowe and Denis Nelthorpe.
They replace former Banking & Financial Services Ombudsman directors Fiona Guthrie and Susie Upton, and former Insurance Ombudsman Service consumer director Elizabeth Lanyon.
FOS was formed in July last year with the merger of the Banking & Finance Services Ombudsman, the Financial Industry Complaints Service and the Insurance Ombudsman Service.
Chief Ombudsman Colin Neave said in a statement the new board will have “various strategic matters” to consider at its first meeting, including the process for engagement with stakeholders as FOS develops its operational guidelines.
