MySuper bill passes Lower House

The House of Representatives has passed the MySuper bill after changing the start date for contributions to a fund.

The start date for employee contributions to a MySuper fund has been pushed out to January 1, 2014.

Financial Services and Superannuation Minister Bill Shorten says the change is due to stakeholder concerns the planned start date of October 1 next year was too soon.

“This additional three months will facilitate a smoother transition to the new regime for both employers and super funds,” he said.

“I acknowledge the support of the cross-bench and Coalition for the Government amendment.”

Super funds will able to set up a MySuper product from July 1 next year.
