MLC Life is partnering with pain management specialist Beyond Pain to help customers suffering chronic pain, fatigue and mental illness return to work after making a claim.

The program is available to all MLC Life customers who have made an income protection claim at MLC Life Insurance.

More than 50 customers have already benefited from Beyond Pain’s engagement, with three quarters of those referred meeting their recovery goals. Some degree of return to work was achieved in 66% of cases.

One in three people over the age of 65 live with chronic pain – one of the fastest growing medical conditions in Australia. Across all ages, it affects one in five Australians.

“We see the impact that chronic pain has on our customers every single day through the claims we support,” MLC’s Chief Claims Officer Jane Dorter said.

“Our purpose is to help our customers better understand and manage their condition and ultimately have the confidence to return to good work and a healthy lifestyle. Beyond Pain assists us to deliver this help.”

Under the partnership, all customers on claim have access to Beyond Pain’s Pain-Assist, a tailored pain coaching program offered via telehealth under the guidance of an experienced pain management team.
