MLC Life appoints group pricing chief

MLC Life has named experienced industry executive Brett Pickett as its new Head of Group Pricing.

Mr Pickett will be responsible for pushing new partnerships as part of MLC’s business plan, with the life insurer emphasising a “competitive and sustainable” pricing approach.

“Super funds know we’re big enough to deliver and small enough to care,” MLC Chief Group Insurance Officer Mark Puli said.

Mr Pickett joins MLC following seven years at TAL across two separate stints between 2015 to 2018 and 2019 to this year, where he held several senior positions as part of its actuarial team. He has also served as an adviser to the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority as well as Actuary roles for Suncorp and Guernsey Financial Services.

His appointment follows MLC’s recent hire of Peter Smith as its new Head of Business Development, with Mr Puli advising to “watch this space”.

“We have big plans in group insurance which is why we’ve built out an incredible team to deliver on our promise to trustees and their members,” he said.

“Brett has the actuarial and economic background to help navigate tough, risky and uncertain times, to ensure innovative solutions and pricing that’s sustainable and competitive over the cycle.

“Trustees want the best outcome for their members in a strong and competitive market, and we’re serious about providing them with a very attractive offering.”
