MLC cashes in on commission switch
While some financial planners anticipate a significant drop in earnings once the commission ban takes effect in 2012, others are finding opportunities to spruik their services.
Launching a group of workshops this week to assist financial planners make the transition, MLC is one company putting its experience in a commission-free world to good use.
Business Development Manager Peter Greenaway says many planners are seeking advice on new business models they can follow once the commission ban becomes law.
“The 2012 deadline may seem like a long way away, but the sooner advisers begin making the transition the better,” he said.
“It’s all about understanding the value of your advice and being able to articulate that value to the client.”
Mr Greenaway says he hopes the changes will encourage more Australians to seek assistance when managing their finances.
The workshops being June 8 in Melbourne followed by sessions in Sydney on June 9 and Adelaide on July 20.
