MetLife makes changes to life products

MetLife has introduced changes that it says would make it “easier and faster” for customers in Australia to purchase life insurance.

Medical thresholds for the MetLife Protect and MetLife Protect Super products have been streamlined as part of efforts to make insurance more accessible.

The insurer will use mini-checks rather than full medical exams for underwriting applications, depending on the type and level of cover.

Mini-checks are quicker and easier, requiring clients to undertake only height and weight measurements, blood pressure reading, pulse rate and a urine check, the insurer says.

Medicals have also been removed for income cover up to $15,000 per month and no medical is required for Life and total and permanent disability cover up to $1.5 million for all clients aged 46 and over.

“These changes simplify the process of applying for life insurance with MetLife, making it easier and faster for advisers to protect their clients’ lifestyles,” Chief Distribution Officer Michael Mulholland said.

“Changing the medical requirements will also reduce the time it takes to apply for life insurance.

“We’re always looking for ways to make it more efficient for advisers to serve more clients without compromising on quality. Our approach enables advisers to spend more time understanding the needs of their clients and doing what they do best.”
