Macquarie Life simplifies science

Macquarie Life has launched an online educational site for advisers to help explain medical illnesses.

By clicking on the area of the body being discussed with the client, the adviser can access medical descriptions of the illness in simple language as well as the amount of cover provided by a life insurance policy.

Macquarie Life Head of Underwriting and Claims Sally Phillips says the idea for the website, Active Body, came from advisers.

“Macquarie Life Active brought a new category of life insurance cover to the market and as expected that also brought a greater demand for education,” she said.

“We listened to advisers when they told us of the challenges they face in explaining life insurance to their clients.

“They asked for something that was user-friendly, would cut through medical terminology and most of all would appeal to their clients.”

Dr Phillips says the aim of the site was to encourage financial advisers to discuss life insurance with the clients in a clear and simple way to deal with the underinsurance problem facing Australia.

Since launching its Active life insurance product last year, more than 300 advisers have generated inforce premiums in excess of $3 million.
