Life insurance for diabetics

Diabetes Australia has secured a new life insurance deal for people suffering from the disease. After two years of negotiations, PrefSure Life and Associated Planners Financial Services have agreed to provide diabetics with specialised life insurance policies.

Statistics compiled by Diabetes Australia show that the number one complaint of diabetics is the lack of insurance cover available and the premiums charged.

The new life insurance product – dubbed SafeGuard – is available to Diabetes Australia’s NSW members aged between 18 and 70. Cover isn’t guaranteed but is considered on a case-by-case basis.

The CEO of Diabetes Australia, Liz Peers, described the policy as a “significant breakthrough for the 1.2 million Australians affected by diabetes”.
