Life CEO secures Challenger promotion

Challenger Life CEO Richard Howes has been appointed CEO Distribution, Product and Marketing at the parent company.

He will replace Paul Rogan, who plans to pursue other interests including a fintech start-up.

Mr Rogan will stay on part-time next year to assist with the transition.

Mr Howes’ position will be filled by Chris Plater, currently Challenger Life Chief Investment Officer.

Challenger Group CEO Brian Benari says Mr Howes “has a strong track record of driving the Challenger Life business and is well positioned to maintain Challenger’s distribution and marketing momentum. Mr Plater is a highly capable successor as life CEO. He is an existing member of

Challenger’s leadership team and has held key life business roles during the past 13 years.”

Mr Benari says Mr Rogan “has made a significant contribution to Challenger during the past 11 years. This has included building brand leadership, strong service capabilities and our annuity distribution footprint.”
