CommInsure has appointed Deloitte as the independent expert to review past declined life insurance claims.

The consultant will independently select and review a representative sample of declined claims during the past five years.

After looking at a selection of the declined claims, it will then make a decision on whether any further action is needed.

Deloitte will also make recommendations to the CommInsure board about improvements to its claims process.

CommInsure has also appointed legal firm DLA Piper as an independent expert to look at any ethical issues relating to claims, including looking at policy wording and definitions, claim-handling, medical files and the insurer’s relationship with medical practitioners.

Robyn Napier has also been appointed as an external member of CommInsure’s claims review panel.
