Government bypasses state super laws
The Federal Government says it will over-ride state industrial legislation by applying the new choice of super fund to workers under state awards.
Assistant Treasurer Mal Brough says the Government will be introducing an amendment to the choice legislation “to allow the Commonwealth to over-ride state awards in respect of superannuation” from July 1 next year.
Mr Brough says the announcement provides certainty for the superannuation industry and paves the way for the Government to embark on a comprehensive community education campaign from mid-April.
“The campaign will focus on helping businesses and employees to understand what choice will mean, and how to meet their obligations,” he said. “The Government is investing $19.7 million over two years for the education campaign.”
