The Financial Services Council has appointed UBS Asset Management Australia CEO Bryce Doherty and Mercer Australia MD Ben Walsh to its board of directors.

“Both have had long careers in financial services and will add specialist knowledge and expertise during this challenging period for the sector,” Chairman Geoff Lloyd said.

Mr Doherty has 23 years’ experience in the investment industry. Before joining UBS in 2011 he was head of wholesale at BT Investment Management.

Mr Walsh is also chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies in Australia and has worked for the group in the UK, US and India.

The appointments, made at the annual general meeting last week, fill vacancies left by Alexis George, Deputy CEO at ANZ Bank, and MLC Super CEO Matthew Lawrance.
