Free advice for drought-hit communities
Members of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) are pledging their support to drought-ravaged communities with a new pro-bono advice program.
Farmers, small businesses and individuals in the south-western region of NSW now have access to free financial advice, which the FPA plans to roll out nationally next year.
Unlike financial counsellors, who assist mainly with immediate cash flow problems, debt management and access to government assistance, financial planners will provide longer-term financial advice.
"Often people in rural communities also need help with investments, life insurance and risk management, or succession planning for the property, and this is where advice from a professional financial planner can make a significant difference," FPA Chairman Corinna Dieters said.
