FPA revamps Find a Planner service

The Financial Planning Association (FPA) will launch its new Find a Planner service next year, matching consumers with advisers based on their money and life-goal profiles.

Consumers can choose how many advisers they want to contact them, while FPA members can decide if their services suit a consumer before approving the match.

FPA research on its current location-based directory shows consumers choose an adviser based on six filters: trust, comfort, tailored recommendations, rapport, impartiality and reputation.

The association has also released a fintech buyer’s guide to help advisers assess their needs and choose the right technology partner for back-end services.

Head of Policy and Standards Benjamin Marshan says old business models are not working well amid rising costs, changing consumer expectations and regulatory obligations.

The guide will help advisers avoid wasting time and money on technology that does not meet their needs, he says.

The FPA has also announced its latest award winners.

Perth adviser Michael Carmody, Queensland adviser Felicity Cooper and planning practice Wotherspoon Wealth in SA were all honoured.

NSW adviser John Dacker received the Gwen Fletcher Memorial Award.
