FPA charity bike ride heads west

The Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) Future2 foundation will hold its annual cycle fundraiser in WA this year.

The Wheel Classic covers a seven-day, 930km route from Perth through coastal and southern regions including Margaret River and Mandurah.

It will run from November 17-23, ending as the FPA’s annual conference opens in Perth.

It will be Future2’s seventh endurance cycle ride, with more than $585,000 raised.

The funds have helped disadvantaged young Australians through the foundation’s Make the Difference! grants.

The fundraising target this year is $100,000, with a $1000 minimum for each rider.

The cyclist who raises the most will win the Jack Griffin Memorial Trophy. The Purple Pedal trophy goes to the rider nominated as showing the most “grit and determination”.

Future2 Chairman Matthew Rowe says this year’s ride is equal to last year’s gruelling Sydney-Brisbane trip, and “promises a spectacular ride that tests the stamina of the participants”.

“But spurring them on will be the camaraderie of the team and the knowledge that their efforts will help young Australians turn their adversity into opportunity.”
