Former CBA exec to head TAL board

TAL has named former Commonwealth Bank deputy CEO David Cohen as its new chair, with former Actuaries Institute president Annette King also joining the board.

Mr Cohen’s appointment comes after Mark Joiner stepped down from the top position.

He will join the life insurer’s board in April and take over as chair from May 8.

Mr Cohen was CBA’s deputy CEO from November 2018 until last December, when he ended a 16-year career with the bank.

He previously spent time as AMP’s general counsel and was a partner at law firm Allens.

“I’m delighted to be joining the TAL board and working with CEO Fiona Macgregor and the executive team,” he said.

“TAL is a great Australian business and I look forward to helping guide its future, for the benefit of all stakeholders.”

New non-executive director Ms King has more than 30 years’ financial services experience, including time at Swiss Re, Axa, MLC Australia and Life Insurance Association Singapore.

Interim chair Christine Bartlett says the new additions bring “significant contemporary experience in transformation and growth to the TAL board”.
