Fishing, trucking and farming top dangerous jobs list

Commercial fishing is the most dangerous job in Australia, according to a study by comparison website lifeinsurancefinder.com.au.

Trucking is next on the list of the country’s most risky occupations, with 200 fatal crashes in 2011, accounting for 15% of all road fatalities.

Third place goes to farming, which is also ranked in the top three worldwide.

Mining is the fourth most dangerous job in Australia, with 50 to 60 workers a year killed by toxic gases and explosions.

Construction workers, tree loppers, defence force personnel, firefighters, pilots and garbage collectors complete the top 10.

The list was compiled using Australian Bureau of Statistics and Safe Work Australia data.
