‘Cut and paste’ adviser gets lifetime ban
Victorian adviser Koresh Daniel Houghton has been permanently banned from providing financial services by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
The commission says Mr Houghton engaged in misleading, deceptive and dishonest conduct and failed to act in his clients’ best interests when providing advice.
Surveillance shows he created false documents by cutting and pasting customer signatures on to letters.
He completed and submitted insurance application forms on behalf of clients with incorrect information, and failed to make reasonable enquires into clients’ financial situation and needs.
He also failed to conduct reasonable investigation into financial products that might achieve the objectives of the clients.
Mr Houghton was an authorised representative of Financial Wisdom from July 2013 to January 2015, and was cross-endorsed as an authorised representative of Commonwealth Financial Planning (September 2013 to November 2014) and Dover Financial Advisers (January 2015 to October last year).
He has the right to appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal against his ban.
