Customers, advisers make most of TAL wellbeing program

Life insurer TAL says more than 70% of new policies have benefitted from discounts under its wellbeing program, launched in December.

The Health Sense scheme gives customers a lifetime discount of 7.5% if they are of an acceptable body mass index.

They can receive a maximum 15% discount if they accept a number of bundled products.

TAL GM Retail Distribution Niall McConville says the program is proving a success for advisers and clients.

“Due to the simplicity of the initiative, advisers are having good conversations with their clients,” he said. “Recent TAL research reveals 40% of people are comfortable talking about their physical fitness with their adviser.”

He says 46% of people see a link between life insurance and healthy living.

“This is relatively new territory for the industry, and it is encouraging to see consumers are welcoming of the alignment.”

TAL is holding a series of Health Sense roadshows for advisers, featuring the Body-Brain Performance Institute’s executive performance coach Paul Taylor.

The first event was in Brisbane earlier this month.

Mr McConville says he is pleased with the engagement shown and attendance figures.

“We are looking forward to taking this information to other states during the coming weeks.”
