Court sentences SA adviser
A former director of a financial planning practice providing life advice has been sentenced to 12 months’ jail after admitting dishonest conduct.
Adelaide District Court released Barry Hassell on a 12-month good-behaviour bond of $100 after sentencing.
Last October Hassell pleaded guilty to 39 charges including dishonest conduct, providing the Australian Securities and Investments Commission with false or misleading information and failing to provide a disclosure document to clients.
He had also submitted applications for insurance that contained false information.
The court heard his misconduct occurred for more than seven years during his time as a director of BD & WJ Hassell and as an authorised representative of a number of Australian financial services licensees.
