Code compliance committee gets new chairman
University of New England Deputy Chancellor Jan McClelland has been appointed Chairman of the Life Code Compliance Committee.
Her appointment was announced in a joint statement from the Financial Services Council (FSC) and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The FSC owns the code and AFCA provides the secretariat services comprising of an industry representative, a consumer representative and an independent chair.
Ms McClelland takes over from Anne Brown, who completed her three-year tenure earlier this year.
The joint statement says Ms McClelland has extensive experience in industry codes of practice, and has served on audit and risk committees in legal, health and local government sectors
“The [Life Code Compliance Committee] has an important role in monitoring the effectiveness of the Life Code and therefore supporting good industry practice,” AFCA CEO David Locke said.
“Ms McClelland will bring deep and diverse experience to leadership of the committee.”
FSC CEO Sally Loane says she looks forward to working closely with Ms McClelland in ensuring the Life Insurance Code of Practice delivers for Australian consumers.
