Black Dog Institute helps TAL raise game on mental health

TAL has partnered with the Black Dog Institute and the University of Sydney as it enhances its focus on mental health.

The life insurer paid more than $200 million in mental health claims in the year to March 31, putting it in the top three reasons for payouts.

“It’s essential that we have the right skills and expertise to inform our product development and practices, reflect evolving clinical best practice and give our customers the very best support we can,” Head of Mental Health Glenn Baird said.

TAL will give customers access to evidence-based resources through its partnership with the Black Dog Institute, while the University of Sydney tie-up will explore alternative risk predictors of mental health disorders.

The Dai-ichi Life-owned insurer appointed Mr Baird in July to drive its mental health strategy.
