ASIC offers update on CommInsure probe
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) investigation into CommInsure continues, with the regulator yet to reveal any outcomes.
The review has focused on various aspects of CommInsure’s business, including claims management, following negative stories in mainstream media.
ASIC has obtained about 60,000 documents, interviewed a number of individuals and sought external legal advice.
It says it has spoken to CommInsure and to the independent reviewers the insurer appointed to examine claims and disputes.
“ASIC has been engaging closely with CommInsure concerning the scope and findings of these reviews,” the regulator says.
“ASIC will continue to monitor the scope and conduct of these reviews and will continue to liaise closely with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority during this process.”
Due to its complexity, the regulator expects the inquiry to continue for some time.
