ASIC bans Affinia adviser over life sales
A former Affinia life insurance adviser has been banned for five years by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
The regulator started investigating Christopher Young, an authorised representative of Affinia Financial Advisers, last year.
It reviewed a number of his client files, finding he failed to act in clients’ best interests.
ASIC says Mr Young did not provide sufficient detail in statements of advice, keep proper records or make reasonable enquires into clients’ objectives, financial situations and needs.
Nor did he determine if the amounts of insurance cover he recommended were appropriate and if premiums were affordable, ASIC says.
Affinia, which employed him from June 2013 to July last year, reported Mr Young to the regulator when it became concerned about his advice on life insurance and superannuation. It has reviewed all his advice and implemented a remediation program for affected clients.
