AMP appoints a scrutineer

AMP has engaged external advisers to review its operations after the unprecedented Australian Securities and Investments Commission report. The outside firm will look particularly at the measures AMP has put in place since the company agreed to a raft of enforceable undertakings – which included the need for an external review.

“We have now appointed Deloitte as the external expert,” AMP said. “Deloitte will be reviewing the changes we have made around our processes to provide assurance that they are robust and well entrenched.”

As part of its other undertakings, AMP has agreed to write to more than 7000 customers who received advice to change superannuation products. They will each be offered a review of that advice to ensure there was a reasonable basis for it.

AMP has also pledged to update its written procedures and guidelines and to extensively train staff in their application.
