The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) has named the finalists for its adviser, practice and female excellence in advice awards.

The adviser finalists, all from NSW, are: Darren Johns from Align Financial; Jason Petersen of 5 Financial; and Gary Spencer of Spencer Private Wealth.

The best practice finalists are: Henderson Maxwell (NSW); Mediq Financial Services (Victoria); and Navwealth Financial Group (NSW).

The female excellence award contenders are: Wealth Planning Partners director; Caboodle Financial Services co-founder Peita Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Senior VP Susan Rallings; and MHP Private Wealth adviser Lea Schodel.

AFA CEO Brad Fox says the finalists have participated in a rigorous assessment process, being judged on areas such as education, experience and contribution to the industry.

“The awards truly represent the cream of the crop, as evaluated by third-party testing and robust business analysis,” he said.

“We know each year it is getting more difficult for great practitioners and practices to stand out from the crowd because the standard in our industry continues to be both raised and met.”

Zurich sponsors the adviser of the year and practice of the year awards, while TAL sponsors the female excellence in advice award.

The winners will be announced on October 7 at the AFA National Conference in Canberra.
