AFA gives framework critics chance to vent

The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) will hold an open forum on the new Life Insurance Framework at its roadshows this month.

It is expected members will vent their anger at the association over proposals in the framework.

CEO Brad Fox says the AFA will attempt to answer questions on the matter.

“There continues to be a great deal of uncertainty, confusion and concern around the detail and implications of the framework,” he said.

“The open-style forum will give advisers the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and start to consider solutions other advisers are already adopting.”

Advisers are particularly concerned about clawback provisions, with fears consumers moving their policies for genuine reasons will result in loss of revenue for advisers.

“The three-year responsibility period was the No.1 concern for those who participated in the AFA webinar,” Mr Fox said. “Given the potential impact this could have on advice businesses, it did not come as any great surprise.”

Mr Fox says the AFA shares these concerns and wants to explain the negotiations that led to the proposals.

“The open forum will sort the fact from the fiction and open the way for advisers to start thinking about how to manage the changes.

“This is an important opportunity for our members to take.”

The AFA roadshow starts in Hobart on July 21 and finishes in Brisbane on July 30.
